Vic: Hitchhiker killed by car
MELBOURNE, Aug 29 AAP - A hitchhiker died when she was hit by a car in central westVictoria overnight.
The 32-year-old woman had stepped out of another car in which she was a passenger andwas trying to flag down a passing vehicle when she was hit on Gillies Road, Creswick,police said.
Senior Constable Allan Briggs said the Creswick woman was wearing dark clothes, makingit difficult for the driver to see her.
She died at the scene at about 10.40pm (AEST).
Earlier, a 53-year-old Seymour woman was killed when her car veered off the road andhit a tree north of Melbourne.
The accident occurred around 4pm on the Highlands Road, about nine kilometres south-eastof Seymour.
The deaths take the state road toll to 231, 37 fewer than at the same time last year.
